How Many Lash Trays Per Client: A Simple Guide for Lash Artists

Hey lash girlies! One of the most common questions I get from new and even experienced lash artists is: how many lash trays per client do I actually need? I totally get it—lash trays aren’t cheap, and you want to make smart choices with your money and inventory.
Let’s break it down in a super simple way.
How Many Lash Trays Should I Buy?
It depends on what kind of sets you’re doing. If you're working with classic lashes, you’ll usually use a tray with a diameter like .15. A single classic lash tray can give you about 5–7 full sets, depending on how full your client wants their lashes.
If you're working with volume or mega volume sets, especially with finer diameters like .03, you’ll use a lot more fibers per set. So one volume lash tray may only give you 2–3 full sets. This is because each fan uses more lashes.
Lash Tray Math (Don’t Worry—It’s Easy!)
Let’s say you’re using one of our 40-line lash trays—these are packed with fibers! For fills, you only use a small portion of the tray—about 10% or less. That means one tray could cover up to 30 fills if you're smart about how you use it.
So, when you ask, “how many lash trays per client?” the answer depends on if you’re doing a full set or a fill, and whether you’re doing classic or volume lashes.
Single Length vs Mixed Lash Extension Trays
Some artists love mixed trays, which include multiple lengths in one. These are great if you're just starting out or trying new styles. But a lot of our pro artists prefer single-length lash trays—especially in the most-used lengths like 9mm to 12mm. These are the core of most lash maps, and you'll probably reach for them for almost every client.
The benefit? You don’t run out of your go-to lengths as fast. And when you buy single-length trays, you only restock the ones you actually use a lot, instead of rebuying a whole mixed tray for just one length.

How Often Should I Reorder?
If you’re a fully booked lash artist, most of you restock about once a month. If you're doing lashes part-time, you might be able to stretch it to every other month. Of course, this depends on how many clients you're seeing and what types of sets you're doing.
Best Lash Trays to Stock Up On
We recommend always keeping these in stock:
- .15 Classic Trays (for full sets and fills)
- .03 Volume Trays (for mega volume fans)
- Brown Lash Trays (for clients who want a softer, natural look)
- 9mm to 12mm trays in your most-used curls
I hope this helps answer your question on how many lash trays you need per client. Just remember—stock smart, lash strong!
XOXO,
Mish
